Data Ownership Policy

1. What Data Is Yours

Every piece of data you create, import, or generate through using Smart Shamba is yours, including:

• Animal names, species, breeds, and collar assignments.
• Real-time and historical GPS location data for your animals.
• Geofence boundaries and configurations you define.
• Alert history and notification preferences.
• Farm name and profile information.
• Movement reports and activity data.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data exclusively to operate and improve the Smart Shamba Service for you. Specifically:

• Display your animals' locations on your personal map.
• Trigger alerts when animals cross geofence boundaries.
• Generate movement reports for your farm.
• Maintain your account and respond to your support requests.

We do not:

• Sell your data to any third party.
• Share your animal location data with other farms, companies, or government bodies (except when required by Kenyan law).
• Use your data to train AI models for commercial purposes without your explicit consent.
• Use your data for advertising targeting.

3. Aggregated and Anonymised Insights

We may use anonymised, aggregated data - for example, average grazing distances across all farms - to improve the platform and publish industry insights. This data cannot be linked back to you, your farm, or your animals. We will never publish or share data that is identifiable to you without your explicit written consent.

4. Exporting Your Data

You can request a full export of your account data at any time:

1. Log in to Smart Shamba.
2. Go to Settings → Account.
3. Click "Download My Data".
4. A JSON file containing your profile, animals, collars, and GPS positions will be downloaded to your device.

If you need a different format or a more comprehensive export, email us at hello@smartshamba.io and we will work with you.

5. Deleting Your Data

You have the right to permanently delete your account and all associated data:

1. Go to Settings → Account.
2. Scroll to the "Delete Account" section.
3. Confirm deletion. Your account will be immediately deactivated.
4. All personal data, animal records, location history, and geofences are permanently erased within 30 days.

We may retain anonymised, non-identifiable records for statistical purposes. Deletion cannot be undone - we recommend exporting your data first.

6. Third-Party Sub-processors

To operate the Service, we use a small number of trusted sub-processors who may handle your data on our behalf. All sub-processors are contractually bound to:

• Process your data only on our instructions.
• Maintain appropriate security measures.
• Not disclose your data to any other party.
• Delete or return your data when our relationship ends.

We do not use sub-processors who are in the business of selling or monetising personal data. You may request an up-to-date list of sub-processors by emailing hello@smartshamba.io.

7. What Happens If Smart Shamba Is Acquired

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you by email at least 30 days in advance. The acquiring entity will be bound by this Data Ownership Policy. You will have the option to delete your account before the transfer takes effect.
